City announces summer paving program

The city of Hendersonville will repave a number of streets downtown and in the West Side Historic District during July and August. The paving work includes parts of Grove and Washington streets but not King, Main or Church streets.

The extent of the maintenance will vary depending on the situation. Some streets may simply be given a new layer of asphalt overlaying the existing surface, while other streets may have a layer of tar and gravel applied before they are overlayed with new asphalt. Still other streets will have the existing surface milled down a few inches and then receive a new layer of asphalt.

Construction will begin by mid-July and is scheduled to be completed within 60 days weather permitted. The paving contractor will be determined at a July 3 bid opening.
Streets to be resurfaced:

  • Fifth Avenue from Oak to Fleming
  • Buncombe from Fifth Avenue to Fourth Avenue
  • Washington from Fifth Avenue to First Avenue
  • First Avenue from Washington to Grove
  • Second Avenue from Washington to King
  • Grove from First Avenue to Fourth Avenue
  • Caswell from Church to Main

  • Seventh Avenue from Grove to Maple
  • Lincoln Circle beginning at Ray Avenue

If there are funds left over in the 2014 resurfacing budget, additional streets will be considered for resurfacing as well.
