NHHS senior nominated as Presidential Scholar

A senior at North Henderson High has been nominated for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program by the state-level selection committee for consideration by the Commission on Presidential Scholars at the national level.

One of only 10 nominees from North Carolina, Ellie Caldwell was informed of the honor in a letter from North Carolina schools Superintendent June Atkinson.

Established in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson to honor outstanding high school seniors, the program considers students with high SAT or ACT scores and those demonstrating accomplishment in creative writing and visual and performing arts. Being named a Presidential Scholar remains one of the nation's top honors for high school students. In May the 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars will be selected by the Commission on Presidential Scholars and will receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion and an expense-paid trip to Washington.
