Local couple dies in auto accident

A Horse Shoe couple died in an auto accident Tuesday outside of Atlanta.Pardee Hospital officials announced the death of two longtime Pardee employees, Carolyn and Walter Penland.
Carolyn Penland had been an environmental services employee since 1981. Her husband had started as a security officer in 1995 and had worked part-time at Pardee since 2004.
Pardee CEO Jay Kirby told the Pardee Board of Trustees about the deaths on Wednesday.
Walter Penland, 83, died at Stephens County Hospital, and Barbara C. Penland, 62, died at the scene, a website covering North Georgia said.
A Georgia state trooper said that a pickup truck turned into the path of the Penlands' Crown Victoria. The 38-year-old driver of the truck was hospitalized with injuries after the wreck, which caused both vehicles to catch fire, the website accessnorthga.com said. Charges are pending, the trooper said.
The family will receive visitors on Friday at noon with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at Etowah Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery immediately following the funeral
