Hurricane Joaquin could bring area 7 inches of rain

National Weather Service forecast shows rain bands of Joaquin.

The combination of an upper low pressure system moving across the Deep South and tropical moisture from Hurricane Joaquin is likely to produce a very wet weekend.

The weather systems are expected to bring heavy rain across the Carolinas on friday. “If the weather pattern develops as expected heavy rain may move into the region from the east on Friday night,” the National Weather Service said. “Periods of heavy rain could continue even if the center of Joaquin passes well to our east because of the tropical moisture that might get pulled into the circulation of the upper low over the Southeast.”
Meterologist Jeff Taylor of the NWS office in Greer, S.C., said mountains could get 5 to 7 inches of Friday through Sunday.

Henderson County Emergency Services Director Rocky Hyder sent out an advisory Wednesday afternoon warning of the heavy rains.

"This storm could bring significant rainfall to our area Friday through Sunday," he said.

The chance of rain is 80 percent Thursday and Friday and 90 percent Saturday. It drops to 50 percent Sunday.

Joaquin is bearing down on the Bahamas. It is expected to produce total rainfall of 10 to 15 inches over the central Bahamas and up to 20 inches in isolated areas, the National Weather Service.
