Power line opponents to hold picnic at Courthouse Plaza

Opponents of the proposed 45-mile transmission line from Campobello, S.C., to Asheville are holding a Protect Our Land Picnic on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Historic Courthouse Plaza in Hendersonville.

The purpose of the event is to bring together residents to unite against Duke Energy's Western Carolina modernization project and air “concerns about the proposed high-voltage transmission lines and the super-sized natural gas powered electric plant proposed for Lake Julian near Asheville,” organizers said in a news release. Sponsored by the Carolina Land Coalition and MountainTrue, the event is from 2 to 5 p.m.
