BRCC's new Professional Development Institute offers business courses

Blue Ridge Community College is offering a series of seminars on business management this spring as part of its new Professional Development Institute.

The Institute is designed to meet the professional development needs of mid- to upper- business managers. The training seminars will focus on the best practices for developing leaders and leadership skills.

Instructors bring a wealth of expertise from companies such as Mobil Oil, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, Sara Lee Casualwear and more.

Training topics are based on interviews, focus groups and surveys of local leaders to ensure that the most pertinent topics in the industry are covered.
The spring 2016 seminars include:
• Business Analysis: Learn how to develop a business case and business requirements documentation via identifying, capturing and documents business needs.
• Conflict Resolution: Improve your problem-solving abilities and gain effective tools to better manage conflict situations as they arise in the workplace.
• Project Planning and Control: Managing a project carries complex concerns, not always found in traditional management. In this three-day workshop, you will learn and practice the tools and techniques needed to make you a successful project manager or leader. You will learn to identify and execute appropriate planning, organizing and controlling steps for projects, while ensuring quality the first time.
• Coaching and Development: Learn to leverage the concept of strengths based leadership development. Explore the importance of emotional intelligence as well as how to leverage EQi for growth and development.
• Interpersonal Communication: Learn and practice effective and professional communication skills such as active listening, interactive speaking, giving and receiving feedback and managing difficult conversations. This course also includes change communication, conflict resolution techniques and developing effective communication plans.
• Succession Planning: Learn the importance and benefits of succession planning and explore real-life examples of the succession planning process. Gain an understanding of the succession planning blueprint and some concrete tools for implementing a succession plan in your own enterprise.
