Taylor named principal at EHHS

Carl Taylor

Carl Taylor has been named principal of East Henderson High School, filling the vacancy created by the promotion of Scott Rhodes to senior director for human resources on July 1.

“I was fortunate to come back after Elon,” said Taylor, who taught math at East Henderson High for 15 years and  served as assistant principal for the past two years.
A 1995 graduate of EHHS, Taylor has spent his entire 17-year education career at the high school, initially serving as a mathematics teacher upon graduating in 1999 from Elon University with his Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics. He also holds a Masters in Secondary Mathematics Education from Western Carolina University and a School Administration Licensure from Gardner-Webb University.
“Two years ago when I made the transition to assistant principal, I firmly believed in the direction the school was moving,” Taylor said. “I still do.”
Taylor said he’s looking forward to continuing to work with a faculty and staff that is committed to the success of each individual student, and plans to continue the work of previous administration in encouraging student self-assessment and growth – such as with the 30-minute Smart Period instituted last year, during which students can receive extra help from teachers in various subjects or extend their learning through individual or group study halls and computer labs.
Taylor also wants the school’s “Eagle pride” to take flight.
“Our students take great pride in our school,” he said. “I want to see that continue to grow.”
