Organizers of a Democratic Party forum have added Henderson County School Board candidates to the event in reaction to a Republican Party forum that snubbed half the field.
The Republican Party hosted a School Board forum Thursday night and invited only the four registered Republicans who are on the Nov. 8 ballot. That excluded four unaffiliated candidates, including incumbents Ervin Bazzle, Mary Louise Corn and Rick Wood.
The candidate forum on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Bold Rock Cidery, includes Democratic candidates for state offices.
Local Democratic Party spokesman Josh Denton said the party decided to add the School Board candidates after reading news accounts of the Republican forum. The School Board candidates will get three to five minutes to speak during a segment starting at 10 a.m. As of Friday, seven of the eight candidates had confirmed plans to attend. Bold Rock Cidery is at 72 Schoolhouse Road in Mills River.
