A 74-year-old man died early Friday when his home caught fire on Dollie Lane behind the Flat Rock Wood Room on Greenville Highway, the city of Hendersonville said in a news release.

City firefighters were dispatched to 8 Dollie Lane after a neighbor saw the fire and called 911 just before 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived the single-wide mobile home was already engulfed in flames. Smoke and flames were pouring through windows and other small openings around the home.

While extinguishing the blaze, firefighters located the body of a the male resident in a hallway near the back door of the trailer. Investigators determined that the fire originated in the living room near the center of the residence. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined but does not appear to be suspicious in nature. The victim’s name has not yet been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Although it was undetermined if the residence had working smoke alarms, Fire Chief Joseph Vindigni urges all citizens to frequently test their smoke alarms to ensure they are functioning properly. The Hendersonville Fire Department will be canvassing the area around Dollie Lane today checking to see if citizens need assistance with purchasing or installing smoke alarms.
