Grant will fund scanning of historic photos

Photos from the Baker Barber Collection will be digitized thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation.

The Henderson County Public Library will be able to scan and save thousands of historic Baker Barber photographs thanks to a $16,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Henderson County.

“With the Community Foundation’s first grant in 2016 we were able to digitize nearly 13,000 photographs,” said Mark Burdette, who is the reference and special collections librarian. “This second grant will allow us to continue preserving an important part Henderson County history.”to continue the digitization of photographs within the Baker Barber Collection.

The photographs in the Baker Barber collection range from local street scenes and daily life to family portraits and landscapes.The Community Foundation of Henderson County, founded in 1982, supports charitable programs in the greater Henderson County area.
