Moore to appeal Elections Board decision

John Moore, who was disqualified from running for a seat on the Hendersonville City Council by the Board of Elections on Thursday, will appeal that decision at a hearing before the board at 9 a.m. July 20.

Moore, who turned 20 years old on June 5, was disqualified because he does not meet the age requirement to run for office as laid out in the North Carolina Constitution. In reaching its decision, the elections board cited Article 6, Section 6, which states that qualified voters who are age 21 are eligible to run for office.

Moore, a student at Blue Ridge Community College, had declared his candidacy for the Hendersonville City Council in early June, right after his birthday. He graduated from Hendersonville High School in 2015, where he was student body president.
