BRCC to add food trucks on campus

Blue Ridge Community College students and the public could get lunch and snacks at food trucks on the BRCC campuses here and in Brevard by the middle of next month.


BRCC is soliciting letters of interest from food truck vendors in Hendersonville, Asheville and Brevard, said Lee Anna Haney, BRCC’s public information officer.
“We are still in the early stages,” she said. “You’ve got to have seating and power. We’ll seek some input from the successful vendor.
“We had a food truck on our Transylvania County campus. It was just pretty much there in the parking lot, very visible from the main highway.”
BRCC has closed the dining room. Students at the new innovative high school are served in a cafeteria.
“It’s just not feasible for our adults and employees to get in the line over there,” Haney said. “I think this will be a big hit.”
BRCC officials hope that several food trucks will qualify and will rotate through the week.
“to give a different variety of food and to give some of those (food truck) folks a chance to be here.”
The Brevard campus has about 500 students and the Hendersonville campus has 1,800 credit students plus all our continuing education students.
Although the location of the food truck has not been decided, Haney said college officials expect it will be near the middle of the campus around the Killian and Technical Education and Development and Blue Ridge Conference Hall buildings.
“I think it will take community support to make it successful,” Haney said. “People coming in and having lunch on our campus. I think that was part of the success of the one that was in Brevard for a while.”
Prospective food truck vendors must submit letters of interest to by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, to BRCC, Attention: Carolyn W. Alley, 180 W Campus Drive, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731.
