Main Street gets an apple makeover

Easy-ups and not so easy-ups dominated the streetscape Thursday night as vendors, apple growers and food purveyors set up for the 66th North Carolina Apple Festival.

"It's so neat that you can look at all this now," said Tonya Cochran, the president-elect of the Apple Festival, "and by tonight the streets will be cleared, all the trucks will be gone and all the tents will be up."
The Apple Festival opens with the Kiwanis breakfast Friday morning at First Baptist Church and then officially kicks off with the opening ceremony on the stage at the Historic Courthouse at 10 a.m.
