Flat Rock names new administrator

FLAT ROCK — The village of Flat Rock has a new administrator, just the second one in its history.

The Flat Rock Village Council voted unanimously to hire Patricia A. “Pat” Christie for the job, replacing Judy Boleman, who retires on July 1. A search committee considered five candidates from a pool of applicants and named two finalists before settling on Christie, who is currently Parks and Recreation director for the town of Mills River. She has also been that town’s zoning enforcement officer and is a certified arborist.

Her salary is $65,000 a year, with three weeks of vacation plus sick leave and medical, dental and vision coverage and life insurance. When she starts June 1, she will train under Boleman for a month before officially becoming village administrator on July 1.

At a meeting last month of the Local Government Committee for Cooperative Action, Mayor Bob Staton told fellow municipal officials of Boleman’s departure.

“It would be an understatement to say that Judy will be missed,” he said.

After serving as the first chair of the Flat Rock Zoning Board of Adjustment, she served on the Village Council from 1999 until 2007. She became part-time and eventually fulltime zoning administrator and in 2012 became Flat Rock’s first village administrator.

“She has been in an official capacity for 20 years of our 23 years’ experience,” Staton said. “Will we miss her? You bet we will.”
