Seventh grader helps design 2018 Apple Festival logo

The North Carolina Apple Festival unveiled the logo for the 72nd annual festival on Tuesday, showcasing the work of a rising seventh grader.

This year’s logo was designed by Dakota Corn, the granddaughter of 2018  President Cheryl Gudger-Thompson, along with NC Printing of Hendersonville.

Dakota is an honor student at Flat Rock Middle School. When she found out that her grandmother  was going to be this year’s president, she decided to draw some ideas. The Apple Festival Board chose one for the 2018 Logo.

"Well, I was trying to think of something everyone would like, and carving North Carolina into an apple was something cool people liked and it was a way of representing North Carolina and the Apple Festival,” she said. “That design was the design I had liked the most so when it was chosen, I was really excited and happy."

This year’s theme “Apple State of Mind” was suggested by Colby Buchanan based on the logo.

The festival features the logo on T-shirts and other merchandise.
