Southern App's Oktoberfest, home of weiner dog races, adds events
The 8th annual Oktoberfest at Southern Appalachian Brewing Co. on Saturday features two new events plus the popular weiner-dog races and other traditions.
New this year is the Volksmarch 5k to benefit the Friends of Oklawaha Greenway, a shorter version of the traditional Volksmarch 10K. The run is on the Oklawaha Greenway. Register at SAB. The end of the walk is at the brewery before Oktoberfest starts.
Also new is the Dirndl (and Lederhosen) Dash during Okotoberfest, a1K run/walk starting and ending at the brewery. Participants will run/walk a loop through the Historic Seventh Avenue District holding a stein filled with water. The winners will be judged by the speed in which they finish and by how much water remains in their stein.
