LIGHTNING PHOTOS: Hendersonville underwater

Photos of flooding on Dana Road at Tracy Grove Road taken at 9 a.m. (left) and 4:30 p.m. show how floodwaters continued to rise on Thursday.

Flooding that many local people described as the worst they had seen in Hendersonville closed roads, covered farm fields and submerged cars that risked driving through high water after the edge of Hurricane Michael dropped around 6 inches of rain on the area overnight Wednesday.

County Manager Steve Wyatt said a 3 p.m. update showed that the levels of Mud Creek and Bat Fork were falling while the French Broad and Rocky Broad continued to rise. No deaths or injuries were reported from the flooding, although a number of people were rescued or evacuated from high water by first responders.
