Schools closed today ahead of snow threat

The threat of a snowfall and hazardous road conditions caused Henderson County to call off schools today.

School officials made the call around 5 a.m. to call off classes and make Tuesday an optional teacher workday.

The forecast calls for rain changing into snow after noon as the temperature falls all day, dropping to around 28 by 5 p.m. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch are possible, the National Weather Service said.
The deep freeze continues for two days, with lows Tuesday night around 16 and a high Wednesday right around freezing. The low Wednesday night should be around 15 with a high near Thursday near 34. A warmup comes after that, with a huigh of 46 on Friday and highs near around 50 on Saturday.
