High winds knock out power for 979 customers

High winds caused damage that knocked out power to almost 1,000 Duke Energy customers in Henderson County on Friday and forecasters warned that the wind gusts could persist through 10 Friday night.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory calling for gusts of 35 mph. "Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," the bulletin said. "Use extra caution."

The windstorm had knocked out power to 979 homes and businesses in Henderson County at 5:30 p.m. Buncombe County had 2,127 outages, Polk County 279 and Transylvania County 22.
