Police arrest driver, passenger after Fletcher chase

Fletcher police charged a 23-year-old Candler man and the 22-year-old driver of a vehicle who led police on a chase that ended at the interchange of I-26 and Airport Road.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3, a Fletcher police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle displaying a fictitious registration plate and no tail lights near the Henderson County / Buncombe County line. The driver of the suspect vehicle refused to stop and a chase ensued into Buncombe County.

The chase continued back into Henderson County and ended when the suspect vehicle struck the curbing at the I-26 & Airport Road intersection, causing the suspect vehicle to become inoperable. The two suspects fled on foot and officers caught the passenger a short time later.
Arrested and charged was Billy Lee Putnam. He was charged with Assault on a Government Official, Resist/Obstruct a Public Officer, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Putnam’s bond was set at $4,500.
The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Clay Reynolds, of Fletcher, was caught about noon Friday and charged with multiple offenses. Officers remained in the area of where Reynolds was last seen and were able to take him into custody and he was cooperative.

Reynolds has been charged with Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, and Resist a Public Officer. He was jailed on a  $125,000 bond.
