VOTER GUIDE: Blakely, Clark meet for Fletcher seat; incumbents cruise in Laurel Park

Preston Blakely speaks with voters at a candidate meet and greet.

In a primary election last Tuesday for Fletcher’s District 3 seat, challenger Preston Blakely rolled to a first place finish with 119 votes to incumbent Hugh Clark’s 45 votes.

Julia Price-Fogel received 13 votes. Blakely and Clark meet in the Nov. 5 election.
In Saluda, incumbents Leon Morgan and Stanley Walker and challenger Bob Ross are vying for two seats on the City Commission. Voters also will decide whether to approve liquor-by-the-drink at restaurants, hotels, private clubs and community theaters.

Laurel Park Mayor Carey O’Cain and town commissioners George Banta and Robert Vickery face no opposition in this year’s election and barring an unlikely write-in campaign will be re-elected to new four-year terms on Nov. 5. Fletcher Town Council District 3 incumbent Bob Davy also presumably wins re-election without opposition.
