Laurel Park warns of scammers posing as Apple reps

LAUREL PARK — Town Manager Christopher Todd has issued a scam alert for all Laurel Park residents warning that criminals are posing as Apple representatives.

The scammers are asking residents to purchase gift cards from various places because of the many transactions being used online with the residents Apple ID. The scammers are then asking for the gift card numbers and using them.

If anyone calls and tells you to pay your balance by gift card or by wiring money for any reason, that’s a sure sign of a scam, Todd said. If you’ve already paid a scammer with a gift card, you should immediately call the company that issued the card and tell them it was used in a scam. If you act before the scammer spends the card, you may be able to get your money back. Also, please report details of the incident to the Laurel Park Police Station at 828-692-9399.
