City sewer inspection may close downtown lanes at night

Map shows downtown sewer lines.

In preparation for utility improvements along Church and King streets, a city contractor will be inspecting underground sewer pipes. The majority of these pipes are approximately 100 years old.

The work is scheduled to begin today and the public can expect to see activity for approximately two months. The inspection work along Church and King Streets will be conducted at night from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Camera work along avenues and side streets may be performed during daytime hours.

The contractor will conduct camera work in order to gather information on the existing sewer pipes. The City of Hendersonville is planning a water and sewer replacement and rehabilitation project to coincide with NCDOT’s plan to repave Church and King Streets. Due to the nature of the work, motorists should expect delays and lane closures, the city said.
