Flooding causes wastewater discharge

Hendersonville's utilities department reported 10 discharges of untreated wastewater from its collection system on Tuesday during the flooding caused by 6 inches of rain or more.

The city reported discharges at:

  • 77 Winding Meadows Dr at 9:08 am releasing approximately 4,120 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 305 Blythe St at 9:27 am releasing approximately 231 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 1215 3rd Ave West at 9:43 am releasing approximately 245 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 1348 located at 502 South Whitted St at 10:51 am releasing approximately 866 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 873 Lennox Park Dr at 10:52 am releasing approximately 354 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 323 Lawn Ave at 11:00 am releasing approximately 2,400 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 873 Lennox Park Dr at 11:22 am releasing approximately 3,410 gallons of untreated wastewater
  • 502 South Whitted St at 11:22 am releasing approximately 3,410 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 500 South Whitted St at 12:10 pm releasing approximately 915 gallons of untreated wastewater.
  • 500 South Whitted St at 12:10 pm releasing approximately 610 gallons of untreated wastewater.

All the sanitary sewer overflows were due to excessive rainfall and the releases entered Mud Creek, Wash Creek and King Creek in the French Broad River Basin, the city said.
