Henderson County girls take state soccer title

The Carolina Football Club 01G Hendersonville team recently won the 19U State Cup.

 

As state champions, they earned a berth in the 2020 United States Youth Soccer Southern Regional June 19-25 in Greenville, South Carolina, with a potential opportunity to play in the USYS National Championship to be played July 20-26 in Overland Park, KS. The CFC 01G HVL defeated previously undefeated Charlotte Soccer Academy 3-0 in the championship match on January 11. Miriam Smith scored first with a one-timer inside the penalty box to the lower left corner off an assist from Leah Marr in the 31st minute. In the second half, Martha Smith scored on a one-timer to the upper left corner from 25 yards out on an assist from Miriam Smith in the 64th minute. Finally, Leah Marr beat the goalie with a well-placed goal to the lower right corner off an assist from Miriam Smith in the 86th minute.

Katy Parce had a shutout in goal. Players on the team are from Hendersonville High School, East Henderson High School, West Henderson High School and Eastside High School in Taylors, S.C. The team trains at Berkeley Park in Hendersonville.
