Campfire Grill taking hiatus to tweak takeout procedures

FLAT ROCK — After meeting with employees and researching best practices for takeout, Starr Teel says he is taking a hiatus to "recalibrate" procedures for takeout ordering and pickup at his new Campfire Grill.

Teel and his crew had success with curbside sale of menu items from the Campfire Grill and Hubba Hubba Smokehouse. After hearing concerns and examining successful models, he said he wants to put new protections in place and revise and simplify the menu. One change will be more options in reheatable containers that customers can take home for later. Teel said he had been talking with other restaurateurs

"We feel like we can do it professionally but what are we contributing back to the community?" he said. He wants to make sure that the procedures provide protection for his employees and his loyal customer base, many of them Flat Rock retirees. "We deal with a relatively vulnerable demographic here."

As a result of the new plan, Campfire Grill will suspend service until later this month.

Teel, who also founded the Honey & Salt brunch cafe, had been doing a steady business serving takeout from the Campfire Grill parking lot Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
