Rain all week, with chance of flooding

A series of rain showers and thunderstorms is projected to pummel the mountains and foothills through Thursday, bringing the threat of flooding.

The area is under a flash flood watch through Thursday morning. Rainfall amounts are expected to total 2-4 inches in the Henderson County while the totals may exceed 7 inches as the system moves east to Morganton, Hickory and Lincolnton, the National Weather Service said.

Chance of rain is 90% today and Wednesday, with new rainfall amounts of up to 2 inches today and one and three quarters inch more possible Wednesday. Chance of rain is 70 percent Thursday and Friday. After a chance of rain early, Saturday should be sunny, with a high near 80, and Sunday should be mostly sunny, with a high near 78, the NWS said. There's a 50 percent chance of rain on Memorial Day with a high near 76.
