City seeks members for advisory boards

The city of Hendersonville is inviting residents to apply for seats on several boards and commissions that serve in an advisory position to the City Council. Members of the boards are appointed by the City Council.

The city is now soliciting applications from citizens who might wish to serve on the following board:
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT (alternate position)
The Board of Adjustment is made up of seven City residents (appointed by the City Council) and three members who are residents of the City's extraterritorial jurisdiction (appointed by the Henderson County Board of Commissioners). If you have questions about whether you live in the City or ETJ please call the Planning Department at 697‐3088.
The Board of Adjustment provides administrative reviews, considers and grants variances to the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance, may grant conditional uses, and may impose minimum standards on certain uses such as animal kennels and bed and breakfasts. All decisions and findings of the Board of Adjustment are final administrative decisions. The Board of Adjustment may also hear appeals from a decision or interpretation of the Zoning Ordinance made by the Zoning Administrator.
The Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.
Currently the City's alternate position is open. The alternate position is an important one as it serves to establish a quorum when needed.
TREE BOARD
The Tree Board is an advisory board to the City Council and is made up of seven members who are residents of the City or the extraterritorial jurisdiction. Anyone who owns property in the City is eligible to serve on this Board.
Some of the responsibilities of the Tree Board include: a comprehensive city tree plan, street tree species list, recognition of individuals, businesses or organizations exceeding landscape requirements, public education and recommending the designation of heritage trees.
The Board meets regularly on the first Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at the Operations Center, 305 Williams Street, Hendersonville, NC.
Currently we have a position open on this Board. If gardening and beautifying the landscape is an interest of yours and you would like to have a voice in your community, please consider applying for the vacant position on the Tree Board.

Formed by the City Council September 2, 2010, the board advises the City Council on policies and practices dealing with the environment and energy conservation and assist with citizen‐education efforts.
This Board meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m.
We have two positions open for City residents. If you are interested in sustainability or have ideas to further the City's efforts in sustainability, please consider serving on this board.
