As testing ramps up, county sees cases rise

Amid a sharp increase in testing available to the public, Henderson County is seeing a steady increase in coronavirus cases, Friday's figures showed.

The county reported 883 positive cases on Friday, up more than 100 from the previous report. Of the total, 293 were affiliated with long-term care facilities and 590 were in the community. The death toll stood at 51. The county's dashboard reported that 408 people had recovered. With testing more widely available, the county reported that 12,008 had been tested.

As more people in the community tested positive, the age of those testing positive is dropping, too. Sixty-five percent of the positive cases were people under age 65. The county has held free coronavirus testing days once or twice a week at the East Henderson High School gym for several weeks and now drug stores are offering tests.
