Laurels wins NC Apple Festival Window Display contest

Like all assisted living centers, the Laurels of Hendersonville has faced challenges of battling the Covid-19 virus. That didn't stop the skilled nursing and rehab center from enthusiastically participating in this year's N.C. Apple Festival Window Display contest.

The Apple Festival honored employees' creativity with the Judge's Choice Award for the best overall display.

"They just did a great job and a big boost for them also," said Larry Phillips, one of the judges. "They said we been already working on our parade float."

Although neither the parade, the street fair, entertainment and food booths are happening this year, the apple window contest drew 11 entries.

"They even changed the name of their road to Apple Road for their display," Phillips said of the Laurels. "One of their folks out in the yard is Nancy the Covid Kicker. As of right now I was glad to hear they had nobody there with the Covid."
