State Sen. Chuck Edwards turned back a challenge from Mills River Town Council member Brian Caskey on Tuesday to win a third term in the state Senate.

Edwards, 60, has been in the state Senate since 2016. He is owner of seven McDonald’s franchises in the Henderson and Buncombe counties. He and his wife, Teresa, are the parents of two children. They live in Flat Rock.

Caskey, 49, is mayor pro tem of the town of Mills River. He and his wife, Stacey, are co-owners of Biltmore Tutoring. Caskey has two daughters — Caitlyn, a nurse in Asheville, and Allison, a senior at West Henderson High School.

In unofficial results, Edwards defeated Caskey 59 to 41 percent.

"With the election now behind us I am enthusiastic to get back to Ralegh to help get our state back on track," Edwards said Tuesday. "Whether you voted for me or not, it is my hope to work with you - and for you - to rebuild our economy, invest in the future of our children, protect your hard earned money, and keep our citizens safe."
