March 31, 2017 Flat Rock, NC Rhonda Lynn Cunningham, 53 of East Flat Rock passed away Thursday March 30, 2017 following a brief illness at the Elizabeth House.
A native of Washington, D.C., she had lived in Henderson County since 1996.
She was the daughter of the late Coyt Cunningham and Claudette Turner Cunningham of Hendersonville.
She was loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her mother survivors include one son, Joshua James Cunningham of Asheville , two brothers, Joe Cunningham and his wife Brooke and Mike Cunningham all of Flat Rock, one grandson Cameron Cunningham of Flat Rock, two nieces, China and Jasmine Cunningham OF Flat Rock, one nephew, Ben Cunningham of Flat Rock and her cat whom she loved dearly Junior.

Colonel George “Rick” Malick, USAF RET. lost his battle with Parkinson's Disease and dementia on March 27, 2017. True to his character, he fought bravely and lovingly throughout his struggles. He will be missed by many people who met him and cared for him throughout his life.
As a highly-accomplished fighter pilot, Rick’s Air Force career spanned 30 years. He served as Squadron Commander for the 89th F-16 Fighter Squadron Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. His most cherished accolades came from his student pilots who overwhelmingly voted him “Best Instructor“ again and again. Rick cared deeply for the pilots who dared bravely to preserve our freedom here at home and around the world.
Rick and his wife Patty would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Patty said it best, “We had great chemistry.” Son Ricky often referred to his father as his hero. Rick's striking smile and soft humor captivated those around him, especially his nieces and nephews.
In addition to Patty and Ricky, Rick is survived by brother, Gary (MaryAnn) Malick. Preceding Rick in death were his parents, George and Rose Malick, and sister, Janet Scarpitti.
Patty extends her gratitude to all the caretakers and medical professionals who assisted her in caring for Rick. Their love and respect in this journey were invaluable.
Services will be held 2pm Monday, April 3, 2017 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.

Mary Magdalene Sypress Brown, 72, of Hendersonville passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
Born in Blackville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Martha Sypress. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Louise Summey.
Mary was a devoted homemaker and a member of the Christian Life Church of Hendersonville. She served her community as a volunteer for the Hendersonville Council on Aging and the Hospice Store on Main Street.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Collins Brown, Jr.; her sons, Walter Leon Sypress, Sr. and Shalimar Lee Brown; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Sypress and Walter Leon Sypress, Jr.; sisters, Rosa Coreen Walker and Ellamae Sypress; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Saturday at the Christian Life Church of Hendersonville. Pastor Eric Ingles will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Suprina Lynn McCullough Stepp passed away Thursday March 23rd 2017 after a sudden illness.
A native of Hendersonville Suprina graduated from East Henderson High School in 1976. She later attended UNCA Asheville as a student of psychology.
Suprina was proceed in death by the love of her life for 45 years, Norman C. Stepp, and her father Buddy McCullough.
Suprina was a Realtor / Broker for 39 years and owner of Stepping Stone Properties. She was an avid rider, loved her horses, animals and all of nature.
She is survived by her mother Nona Sue McCullough, daughter Courtney Stepp and her fiancé Sean Lowery, grandson Tyler, sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Steve Ward, nephew Ryan Ward and wife Amanda, great niece EmmaLee, brother-in-laws Bill Stepp, Alan Stepp and her dog Rose.
The family will receive friends and visitors at a visitation to be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Saturday, April 1st in the Chapel In Pines of Jackson Funeral Service.
Memorial service and burial will be private.

David Edward West, 69, of Hendersonville, NC joined his loved
ones in Heaven Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Elizabeth House.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Quigley West; his
parents, David Woodrow West and Flora K. Praytor; his step-father, Lloyd
Praytor and his sister, Paulette K. McMinn.
David was a loving father that always provided for his family
He was a US Army Veteran that served a tour in Vietnam and a member of the MOPAR Club.
He is survived by his children, Shannon Quigley and his wife
Courtney of Ft. Myers, FL, Laura McKinney of Hendersonville and Jennifer
McGraw and her husband Stephen of Hendersonville; six grandkids, Aaron,
Savannah, Riley, Hannah, Trey and Isaiah; six siblings, Linda Pridmore
and her husband Paul, Gail Clifton, Catherine Ball, Beverly Davis, Jack
West and his wife Janet and Delza Healy and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday,
March 30th at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with
military honors conducted by the Henderson County Honor Guard.

Sendy Ward King, 52, of Hendersonville, NC went to be with the
Lord, Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Elizabeth House after a long
struggle with cancer.
She was a native of Transylvania County and had lived in Henderson County for the past 35 years.
She was the daughter of Robert Ward Sr. of Brevard and the late Maxine Baynard Ward.
She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church of Hendersonville where she taught Sunday School.
Sendy was very proud of her family and loved her husband, kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Allen King;
seven children, Robert Chad Ward of Austin, TX, Christopher Staton and
his wife Kelley and their children, Connor and Colton all of
Hendersonville, Christy Kern and her husband Phillip and their children,
Anthony and Joseph all of Hendersonville, Matthew Orr and his son
Dawson of Hendersonville, Timothy King and his wife Emmalee and their
children, Jonathan and Jacob all of Cedar Mountain, Andrew Orr of
Hendersonville, Margarita Orr and her children, Ayden and Isabella all
of Hendersonville; three siblings, Robert Ward Jr. of Sevierville, TN,
Rebecca Parker of Old Fort and Randall Ward of Murfreesboro, TN and
several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, March 29th at
Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Mason, Rev. Charles Rogers
and Rev. Mike McMillion officiating. Burial will follow at Mtn Home
Baptist Church Cemetery in Edneyville. The family will receive friends
one hour prior to the service in the church.

Doris Gracey, 92, passed away quietly on March 18, 2017. Born in Waycross, GA she was the daughter of the late Helen Lorraine Balser Carraway and the late Oscar James Hall.
Doris spent her adult life in Ft. Myers and Miami, FL. She was married to the late L.F. Gracey and worked for National and Pan American Airlines. After her retirement, she moved to Hendersonville where she spent her final years in the special care of The Laurels of Hendersonville and in the tender care of Four Seasons Hospice.
Doris is survived by her son, Michael Kevin Gracey; sister, Kathryn Fleming; nephews, Carl, Terry, Jim and Winston; nieces, Susan Connie, Lorraine and Claire.

Robert Francis Chaya “Bob”, aged 75, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday March 7, 2017, at his home in Hendersonville NC.
Bob was born in Elizabeth NJ on March 24 1941, to Alexander and Regina Chaya.
He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting, and traveling.
His many talents and hobbies included carpentry, photography, and custom fishing rod building.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bonnie, sister Joan and brother Richard, sons Craig and Christopher, four grandchildren: Heidi, Mason, Annelise and Zachary.
Memorial services are being arranged in both NJ and NC at a later date.

Jeannette Reed Turpin, 72, of Edneyville, NC went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 20, 2017 after a short battle with cancer.
She graduated from Florida State University and was a Seminole Fan.
She loved music and enjoyed playing the Baritone and ringing handbells. She played in the Hendersonville Community Band and was a member of the Praise Ringers Handbell Choir in Fletcher, NC.
She loved helping people at Shelton Pharmacy, was a school teacher at Faith Christian Day School and had retired from the Henderson County Library after 9 years where she enjoyed telling stories to children and was known as “Miss Nettie”. She was a crafter and loved to crochet and do lathe work.
Nettie loved the Lord and tried to serve Him in any way that she could and was a member of Fruitland Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, William “Bill” Turpin Jr.; a daughter, Barbie Higdon (Jerry) of Brevard; a grandson, Ben Higdon; a brother, Bill Reed of Georgia and was loved by many.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 25th at Fruitland Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Stepp officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.

Walter Clyde Parris, 78, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord in what he called his forever home on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Elizabeth House after a period of declining health. A native of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Robert “Bob” and Birdell Rhodes Parris. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Nathan, Grady, Clarence, Donald, Fred, Hugh “Tig” and Ray Parris; sisters, Melba Parris Gordon and Iris Parris Pack.
Walter was a produce farmer for over 30 years and enjoyed his garden and sharing his crops with friends and family. He also enjoyed selling produce at the Henderson Co. Tailgate Market for many years. He was a man who loved home and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Wanda Elmore Parris; daughters, Debbie Parris Davis, Tammy Parris Glover and her husband, Jeff, Beverly Parris Henderson and her husband Richard; sisters, Irene Parris Roper, Evileen Parris Norwood and Rita Parris Justus ; grandchildren, Ashley Glover and her husband Cody, Zack Davis, Amanda Glover, Dawson Henderson and Landon Henderson; great-grandchildren, Will Glover and Zayden Davis; sister-in-law’s, Dorothy and Ruby Parris; and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Tracy Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends James Maybin and Travis Parker officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

Trina Kay Beddingfield, 27, of Tuxedo, passed away March 16th, 2017 as a result of a sudden illness.
She was born March 30th, 1989, a native of Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated From Blue Ridge Community College in 2013; and in 2007 graduated R. L. Paschal High School, in Fort Worth, Texas.
She was a strong, independent woman who loved animals and helping those in need.
She is survived by her husband, Dustin Beddingfield; Her mother, Sheri Hedge; her brothers, Rece and Layne Wooten; her godparents, Tina David and Greg Terhune; her Nana, Debbie Flory; her Mimi, Frances Lee and PaJack, Jack Lee; her great aunt and uncle, Shug and Mike Morris; her great uncle James Flory; her uncle Jeff Morris and cousin Lynzie Morris. She is also survived by her husband's family; Lisa, Dolan, Jack, Lia, and Betty Beddingfield. As well as her loyal pets, Spooky, Talula, Kitty, and Filburt.

Lillian Brown Swift Gaeser, 98, of Hendersonville as well as Boca Raton, Florida died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at her residence in Florida. She was born on January 4, 1919 in New York City to the late Samuel and Sadie Karg Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Irving Swift and Walter Newman Gaeser as well as a daughter, Suzanne Valdez.
Her parents instilled in her at a very early age the importance of education which she complimented with her natural athletic ability. Mrs. Gaeser volunteered with the National Security Women’s Corps during World War II. She enrolled in Barry College, now Barry University, in 1963 to commence her degree in education. She spent the next 11 years working as a substitute teacher and studying to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology as well as her Master of Science Degree in Reading Specialty in 1970. She enjoyed being around all of her students and took a special interest in mentoring them, particularly about “the affairs of the heart.” A consummate philanthropist, Lillian generously helped support many organizations, universities and causes. She never forgot the professionalism and kindness of the entire Barry University staff, and established numerous scholarships for students at the college which will continue posthumously. She was always looking to make a difference in this big world. She was a dedicated member of the Agudas Israel Congregation in Hendersonville.
She is survived by her companion of many years, David M. Lieberson, one step-son, Philip Gaeser and his wife, Lisa of Nashville, TN; four grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Oakdale Cemetery in the Agudas Israel Section, officiated by Rabbi Rachel Jackson.

Jennifer Marie Hamill, 51, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away Monday, March 13, 2017
in her home with her dog Simba by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Jan Hamill.
She is survived by her brother, James Hamill of East Flat Rock.

H. Glenn Kilpatrick, Jr., 71, of Hendersonville passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Elizabeth House. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Harry Glenn Kilpatrick, Sr. and the late Mary Ruth Orr Northington. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Fuschia Andrews Kilpatrick, and a brother, Earl Kilpatrick.
Glenn was a member of Mountain View Missionary Baptist Church. He dedicated 32 years serving his country in the US Air Force, Army and civil service.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 14 years, Lola Davis Kilpatrick; loving step-father, James Northington; two daughters, Dawn Kilpatrick- Kirkpatrick and Mary Meade; one son, Michael Kilpatrick; two step-daughters, Kelly Tawney and Kathy O’Connor; one step-son, Bret Hamrick; two sisters, Carolyn Swanner and Kami Gentry; three brothers, Kim, Keith and Kevin Kilpatrick; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jeffrey Lynn “Jeff” Phillips, 64, of Hendersonville, NC passed away, Saturday, March 11, 2017 after a long battle with an illness.
Jeff having his own business, Phillips and Son Small Engine Repair and being in the military as a disabled veteran, he was also a loving husband to Joyce Phillips. A strong and incredible father to all of his children, Chas, Jenny, Jerri, Mike, Jeff Jr. and Phillip. He was also a courageous outstanding grandfather to his thirteen grandchildren, as well as a friend to all. Jeff being the amazing and exemplary guy he was, he will always be dearly loved and remembered. Jeffrey was a man you would meet only once in your life. Very rare and impeccable, Jeff was irreplaceable, unique, valuable, understanding, priceless and incomparable. We are all unsure of words to say, because there isn’t enough. Jeffrey being sick for the time he was you would never think anything was wrong. He was always in such high spirits, forever smiling and laughing. Even though he is not with us anymore, part of him always will be. He’s our angel now and forever will be missed.

Jane Nix Dill, 80, of Edneyville, passed from this life to be with
her Lord Savior on March……She was the wife of the late Sam
H. Dill. She is survived by her two sons, Harold Rodney Dill and
Sam Greg Dill, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren,
two brothers, Jimmy and Wayne Nix, and one sister, Yvonne Moore.
Jane, “Nana”, was the center of her family. She loved most for the
family to gather at her home so she could not only feed their mouths
but also their souls. Birds and flowers were her passion. Nana’s
flowers continue to bloom and fill her yard with her love for all living
things. Her kindred spirit has blessed us all, and her love and kindness
will continue in our hearts and lives forever.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 13th at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery of which
she was a lifetime member. Pastor Bryan Melton will officiate

Marjorie Lane Menyhard, 81, of Hendersonville, NC passed
away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Elizabeth House after lengthy
illness.
She is survived by her husband, Nicholas Menyhard; three
children, Susan, Nicholas II and John and four grandchildren, Emma,
Joshua, Madison and Nicholas III.
