Eva Lorange Mitchell, 78

Eva Lorange Mitchell, 78, died on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. Born Eva Faye Lorange in Salem OH., she was the daughter of John O. and Aasta O. Lorange.

She attended Riisby Husmorskole in Dokka, Norway, Colby Junior College in New London, New Hampshire and received a Bachelor’s of Art degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Eva taught high school English at the Charles E. Ellis School for Girls in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana after her marriage to Donald M. Mitchell in 1964. Except for 4 or 5 years in Roanoke, Virginia, she lived in Carmel, Indiana for 25 years where she was active in PTA, Alpha Beta Latrian, and the Children’s Bureau of Indianapolis.

She and her husband retired to Flat Rock in 1994 to enjoy the mountains of western North Carolina. She was active in her church until being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1997. This diagnosis was later corrected to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in 2010.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Donald M. Mitchell; her son, John L. Mitchell and wife Tami S. Mitchell of San Ramon, CA, her daughter Karen M McGowan and her husband William of Belle Mead, NJ, four grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell, Mary Mitchell, William McGowan, Jr. and Sarah McGowan, and two sisters, Helen L. Herman and husband John of Charlotte, NC, and Elsa L. Merchant and husband Mason, of Hilton Head, SC.

A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Reformation Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Matt Lucas officiating.
