A life-long resident of Etowah, following graduation from Etowah High School he began his career at Moland-Drysdale Brick Corporation and later, following a long career, retired from the Cellophane area of Ecusta. Upon retiring, he enjoyed working on improvement projects in the coastal areas of North Myrtle Beach and Shallotte.

Some of his greatest joys were in watching his family and friends train and show Walking and Racking Horses. As a hobby, he was very active in the early years of the Racking Horse Breeders Association where he served as a Commissioner and licensed judge. He was a talented builder and in later in life enjoyed home improvement projects including building porches, desks and swings. He was always willing to share his talent with his family and friends of several generations.

Marvin and wife Marilyn enjoyed a lengthy retirement and they loved traveling throughout the south, the beach, and classic car shows. Marvin was active until the end, living independently, driving and helping restore his classic ford pickup and mustang.

He is celebrating in heaven with his cherished wife of 65 years, Marilyn McClain Orr and daughter, Carol Ann Clayton, both preceding him in 2014 and a granddaughter, Tonya Lynette Clayton. Marvin is survived by two; sons Michael his wife Patsy of Cheraw, S.C. and Robert and his wife Kathy of Franklin and Eatonton GA., as well as a son-in-law, Harry Clayton of Etowah. Marvin loved his seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was fortunate to have a caring family of surviving brothers and sisters including Virgina Stepp of Edneyville, Patty Orr, Clair Whitmire and Marjorie Crane, plus a brother, Ray Orr, all of Etowah.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21st, 2015 at Etowah Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Bryan Henderson. Burial will follow in Oak Forest Cemetery.
