On March 1, 2017, Joan Mary Taylor Reid passed away peacefully while in hospice care at Elizabeth House, Flat Rock NC. Born on June 11, 1934 in Beth Israel Hospital, Newark NJ to the late Harry and Mildred Taylor, her family eventually moved to Fairfield CT, where Joan graduated from Roger Ladlowe High School in 1951.

On Jan 29,1955 Joan married William “Bill” Reid at Blessed Sacrament Church in Newark NJ. They relocated to Hendersonville NC in 1968, where they purchased the Southwind Motel, and served as its proprietors until 1991. Joan was also a successful tax preparer, owner of Reid Tax Service, assisting clients across the region for nearly 50 years.

Joan was an active member of the community, beginning her volunteering as a Brownie leader when raising her three daughters in Hendersonville. For 23 years she volunteered at the Purple Ribbon Store benefiting Mainstay Domestic Shelters. Most recently she was a volunteer for the Counsel on Aging. She also worked the voting polls in Henderson County for over a decade.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Sharon Reid and Stacy Reid, two grandsons, Jeffrey White and Jesse Clouse, all of Hendersonville, her sister, Beverly Paoletto of Blairsville GA and a nephew, Lawrence Paoletto of Hendersonville, as well as life long friends and clients who she always treated with affection and respect. She was predeceased and never stopped missing her husband of 52 years, William Reid and her oldest daughter, Susan White, who lost her fight with cancer 16 years ago.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from the Chapel of Jackson Funeral and Crematory in Hendersonville, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1 till 2pm. Interment will be held immediately afterwards at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Hendersonville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made in the way of a donation to The Counsel on Aging 105 King Creek Blvd. Hendersonville, NC 28792.
