Larry Stephen Hyder, Sr., 72

Larry Stephen Hyder, Sr., 72 of Hendersonville, took a ride on that Golden Chariot into heaven, Wednesday, June 14, 2017, where God was waiting with open arms. He spent his last days at the Elizabeth House because of his progressive cancer. He was a native of Hendersonville and was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Hyder and Margaret H. Bagwell; grandparents, Belvin and Lack Hyder; uncle, Roy Davis; and sister, Alisa Clark.
He was a 1963 graduate of Hendersonville High School, and Gastonia Tech in 1965 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, he worked for Ecusta in the Engineering Dept. Later he moved his family to Greenville, SC, where he opened his own business, National Technical Services. He moved back to NC in the 90’s. He was of the Baptist faith. You would often see him giving a homeless man money for food while witnessing to them. His passion was classic cars and his pride was his 1980 white Corvette with a blower sticking out of the hood. He was often seen at car shows.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Patricia; his three loving sons, Larry Hyder, Jr., LaShannon Hyder and Landon Hyder; stepdaughter, Rosa Loftis, whom he loved as his own daughter; stepsons, Chris and Jordon Loftis; grandchildren Zachary Hyder (Sarah), and Emily Hyder; great-granddaughter on the way; his 99 year old aunt, Faye Davis, who loved and spoiled him; two brothers, Frank “Ronnie” Hyder (Janice) and Danny Hyder (Shirley); and two sisters, Scottie Harris (Lonnie) and Melva Stepp; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be at 2:00pm Sunday, June 18, 2017 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. John Weathers. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel from 1-2pm.
