Vivian Mae Scott Hoeppner

Vivian Mae Scott Hoeppner of Hendersonville, NC, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 at Four Seasons, Elizabeth House, Flat Rock, NC, after an extended illness. She was born July 10, 1929, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Mary Peterson and Walter Anthony Scott. She was married for 52 years to Walter F. Hoeppner, Jr., until his death in 2003.

A resident of Flat Rock, NC since 1988, prior to her move to Carolina Village in 2014, Vivian was a member of the Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness, serving in many roles including Altar Guild and the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Vivian was a member of P.E.O., the Garden Club of Hendersonville, Hendersonville Country Club and an active supporter of many community organizations including Brevard Music Center, Children and Family Resource Center, Pardee Hospital Foundation (Cancer Center/Woman Helping Women), Boys and Girls Clubs and Interfaith Assistance Ministry.

Before moving to Henderson County, Vivian and Walter, were 30-year residents of Flossmoor, IL, where they raised their family, were members of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church and active in many community organizations. She enjoyed worldwide travel and sports of all kinds.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Matykiewicz and her husband Jim of Lowell, IN, and her son, Walter F. Hoeppner III and his wife Anne of Libertyville, IL; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Episcopal Church of St. John-in-the-Wilderness in Flat Rock, NC. The Rev. John A. Morton will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness, the Pardee Hospital Foundation, the Vivian S. Hoeppner “Sugar Bowl” Fund, in support of Children and Family Resource Center, or the Vivian S. Hoeppner Salvation Army Summer Camp Fund, both administered by the Community Foundation of Henderson County.
