Joseph Woodrow O'Neal Jr., 74

Joseph Woodrow O'Neal Jr., 74, of Hendersonville, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at the Elizabeth House.

A native of Knightdale, he was born on Oct. 17, 1938, to the late Woodrow and Mary Terry O'Neal. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Jimmie Ray O'Neal; and two grandchildren, Ashleigh Joann Driver and Joseph Dillon Driver.

Mr. O'Neal was employed by the Public Service Company of North Carolina for 37 years and served as the Division Manager for Western North Carolina. He graduated from Knightdale High School and served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church. During his years of employment he was very active in many community organizations, and enjoyed playing golf. He loved his family, and was a wonderful husband, Daddy, and Grandaddy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Raynor O'Neal; two daughters, Teresa O'Neal Freeman and her husband, Rick, of Hendersonville, Debbie O'Neal Price and her husband, Mike, of Wake Forest; four grandchildren, Colton Driver and his fiancée, Jessie Huynh of Columbia, SC, Michael Price of Raleigh, Brittany Price of Raleigh, Colby Price of Wake Forest; four sisters, Shirley Narron and her husband, Jimmy, of Hampton, GA, Mary Sue Boyd of Knightdale, Faye Bizzell and her husband, Bob, of Knightdale, Lynda Williams and her husband, John, of Prince Frederick, MD; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Mud Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Greg T. Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service at the church.
