Thomas William "Tom" Moore, Sr., 82

Thomas William "Tom" Moore, Sr., 82, of Mills River passed peacefully from this life to his eternal life, surrounded at home by his family on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2013, after a brief, but courageous battle with Leukemia.

Tom was a native of Henderson County and lifelong resident of the Mills River community. He was a dairy farmer and partner in Moore Brothers Farm and Moore Brothers Farm Supply in Mills River. He was a precinct worker and judge for the Board of Elections, retiring with 50+ years of service to Henderson County. Tom was a member of the Henderson County Board of Directors. He was an avid hunter and Nascar fan. He was a devoted son, husband, father and "PaPaw". He was of the Baptist faith.

Tom was the youngest son of the late Marion Albert and Emma Holden Moore. He was preceded in death by his brothers Calvin and Frank Moore of Mills River and sisters Kathleen Bradley and Doris Sitton of Mills River and Mary Lou Edney of Hendersonville. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Gail Moore as well as his daughter-in-law, Janet Moore, all of the Mills River Valley.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beulah of Mills River. He is also survived by his 3 children: Carolyn Moore of Mills River; Thomas William "Tommy" Moore, Jr and his wife Lisa of Mills River and Cindy Walrath and her husband Paul of Phoenix City, Ala.. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Mandi Hester and her husband Jason of Gainesville, Fla., Thomas William "T.W." Moore. III and his wife Candice of Brevard, Tyler Freeman and Olivia Gail Moore of Mills River, Nicholas & Jakob Hargrave of Guyton, Ga., and Cassidy Elizabeth and Jana Abigail Walrath of Phoenix City, Ala., and 1 great-grandson, Eli William Hester of Gainesville, Fla., and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Tom loved his family, friends and community. Many thanks to all of you who have visited, called, prepared food and prayed during his illness. A very special thank you to his & our special angel, Barbara Nix.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Thos Shepherd and Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at the Moore-Whitaker Cemetery off Whitaker Lane in Mills River with the Rev. Harold Sitton and Rev. Jason Davis officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mills River Recreation Foundation, Inc, PO Box 111, Horse Shoe, NC 28742.
