Walter D. Swan, 93

Walter D. Swan, 93, passed away on Sept. 30, 2013, at his residence in Carolina Village.

Born July 23, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Walter D.Swan, Sr. and Alice G. Swan. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Katherin Swan, and daughter, Karen Ann Swan, and his second wife, Nellie Piening Swan.

He graduated from Hofstra College with a degree in Business Administration and resided most of his life in Freeport, NY. He retired in 1980 after a 42-year career with Chevron Corporation in the financial field and moved to Hendersonville.

Mr. Swan was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army 8th Air Force as a navigator on a B-17 bomber for the European Operations. He was a past Master of South Bay Masonic Lodge #1145.

Mr. Swan was a hospice home volunteer and drove for the FISH Organization. He was a member of Hendersonville Country Club where he enjoyed many years playing golf. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church and was past Congregational President and Elder.

He is survived by his third wife, Beatrice Brown Swan; his son, Walter D. Swan; and his stepdaughters, Laura Piening, Susan Piening Trotta and stepson, Brian Piening; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 9:45 am Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 in the Magnolia Room of Carolina Village. Pastor Larry Rabon of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church will conduct the service.
