William "Carnel" Lewis, 72

William "Carnel" Lewis, 72, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.\

Born in Yancey County, he was the son of the late William Arthur Lewis and Martha Ann Lewis Edwards of Burnsville. He was also preceded in death by his son, Edgar "Scotty" Dean Lewis; two brothers, David Lewis and Eddie Wayne Lewis; a grandson, James Beck; and two great-nephews, Calob and Kade.

Carnel was an excellent printer, working for forty years at Cranston Print Works. He dedicated his love and time to his family. Carnel enjoyed his horses and spreading Christmas cheer as he sang "Blue Christmas" while selling Christmas trees at the Farmers' Market.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Betty L. Lewis of Hendersonville; his son, Donnie Lewis and wife, Debbie, and their children, Michelle and Nichole; and his daughter, Connie Lewis and boyfriend, Rick Grasty, and her children, Kyle, Koty and Kayla; Cindy Swing, Anita Bowen, and Tommy Bowen. The oldest of 13 children, he is survived by Janette Ballinger of Hendersonville; Patsy and Everett Allen of Tennessee; Jack and Milly Lewis; Shelby and Terry Ledford; June and Tony Honeycutt, all of Burnsville; Johnnie and Eddie Batchelor of Apex; Carol and Rod Champion of Kings Mountain; Kim Lewis; Ramona and David McCurry; and Jeff Lewis, all of Burnsville; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The Revs. Waylon Ledford, Billy Ballinger and Eddie Clayton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A private ceremony will be held in the family cemetery in Burnsville at a later date.
