Eugene "Gene" McCormic, 84

Eugene "Gene" McCormic, 84, of Hendersonville passed away suddenly on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Pardee Hospital.

Born in Nebraska City, Neb., he was the son of the late William and Lillian McCormic. He was also preceded in death by his two previous wives, Dorothy McCormic and Georgia McCormic, and by his brother, John McCormic.

Mr. McCormic retired from the US Army in 1969, having served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a computer specialist for Foster Grant, retiring in 1980. He had lived in Hendersonville for 15 years. Gene served his community as a Gideon, a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and as a Freemason. He received several awards for community service in both Florida and North Carolina. He enjoyed reading, sharpshooting and traveling.

Mr. McCormic is survived by his wife, Barbara McCormic of Hendersonville; his son, Michael McCormic and wife, Karen, of Massachusetts; four daughters, Marcella Smith and husband, William, of New York, Rebecca Connolly of North Carolina, Christine McCormic of New York, and Jennifer Dwyer and husband, Kenneth, of Colorado; four stepchildren, Diane Dewar of Nevada, James Dewar and wife, Kim, of Maryland, Holly Dewar of Nevada, and Michael Dewar of New Hampshire; eleven grandchildren; and bunches of great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Pastor Roy Perry will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 – 4 p.m. prior to the service at Shuler Funeral Home.
