Marian Ross Martin, 58

Marian Ross Martin, 58, of Hendersonville as well as Charlotte, died suddenly Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Pardee Hospital.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1955, the beloved oldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. Marion Ross of Hendersonville.

She was a graduate of Hendersonville High School Class of 1973. She attended Queen's College in Charlotte and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelors degree in sociology and a masters degree in counseling. She had worked as the Admission's Counselor at Queen's College and at the Presbyterian Hospital's School of Nursing, as well as the Union County Public School system, all in Charlotte. For a number of years while residing in Charlotte, she was also active in the Providence Christian School Afterschool Program and the Providence United Methodist Church Bible Study Group. Her most cherished roll in life was being a devoted mother.

She was the wife of Michael Anthony Martin and the loving mother of one son, John Michael Martin. She is also survived by one sister, Claudia Ross Colhoun and her husband, Chuck Colhoun; one brother, John Armstrong Ross and his wife, Jennifer Ramsey Ross; two nieces: Alice Colhoun and Ramsey Ross; as well as three nephews: Charles Colhoun, Jack and Jake Ross, all of Hendersonville. Marian will also be missed by her faithful companion, Scrappy.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville with the Rev. Dan Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Marian to the Blue Ridge Humane Society, 1214 Greenville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
