Bailey Hunter, the Hendersonville High School volleyball power hitter who went on to a stellar varsity career at Georgia Tech, is joining the USA volleyball team on a tour of China. Hunter left last week for a three-week tour of Beijing and Shanghai.
"I'll be one of two professional athletes on the team," she said. "Now that I'm out of college I can claim that title."
An outside hitter, Hunter has been playing in the Middle European Volleyball league since she graduated from Georgia Tech in 2012. Professional volleyball has never caught in the U.S. the way it has in Europe, where matches are raucous and well attended.
Bailey, who is the daughter of Randy and Alice Hunter, traveled with her team to the Eastern European countries of Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republican. She will return to Europe in August for her second season.
"I've made it a goal to play volleyball on every continent," she said.
