Pardee tops 10,000 shots

Volunteers and staff celebrate 10,000 dose at Pardee Vacinne Clinic on Saturday.

The entire team at the Pardee UNC Health Care Vaccine Clinic at Blue Ridge Community College was buzzing with excitement on Saturday morning.

The nurses, doctors, check-in volunteers, supply runners and other team members were scheduled to reach a big milestone that morning with the administration of their 10,000th dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the patient scheduled for that slot. Ms. Yvonna Mayse, 95, of East Flat Rock received the 10,000th dose – her second – at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Feb. 13, 2021. The dose was administered by Thomas Eisenhauer, MD of Pardee Surgical Associates, who happened to be volunteering in the clinic that day.

Eisenhauer, along with so many others working at the Pardee Vaccine Clinic, typically hold another role within the hospital. Team members from across multiple departments at Pardee have stepped forward to help at the Vaccine Clinic; for many, they feel called to help. “It’s so nice to see the joy on people’s faces,” notes Robin, a cardiac clinical nurse educator with Pardee. When asked about their experiences, a recurring theme emerges – they love being there for the patients and the community. “To see the reactions of our patients and the community, it just makes my heart feel good,” said Andrea Neumeyer, director of health information management at Pardee.
Immediately following the administration of the 10,000th dose to Ms. Mayse, the room full of volunteers and vaccine clinic staff erupted into applause.
