League presentation looks into civic apathy

The Henderson County League of Women Voters is presenting "CIVICS UNLEARNED: How Politics and Not Caring Enough Have Led to a Disengaged North Carolina" at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Henderson County Public Library.

The presenter is award-winning journalist Sarah Michels, whose series of articles published by Carolina Public Press focused on the lack of civic engagement in North Carolina, particularly with younger North Carolinians, and how that hinders the democratic process. Michels is the elections and legislative reporter for the Carolina Public Press based in Raleigh. She has dual degrees in journalism and political science from the University of Kentucky.
