China expert to speak at annual Republican dinner

Henderson County’s Republican Party will host China expert Gordon G. Chang as the keynote speaker at its annual Lincoln Reagan Trump Dinner on Saturday, Aug. 1.


The barbecue pork and grilled chicken dinner will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Blue Ridge Community College. Proceeds will be used to fund the party’s “get-out-the-vote” efforts for the upcoming midterm election, according Henderson County’s Republican Party.
Chang is an expert on China and the threat the Chinese Communist Party poses to the United States.
He lived and worked in China for almost two decades and is the author of “The Coming Collapse of China,” “The Great U.S. China Tech War,” “China is Going to War” and “Plan Red: China's Project to Destroy America.”
Chang also writes for and speaks with various media organizations about China and has given briefings at the National Intelligence Council, Central Intelligence Agency, State Department and the Pentagon. He has also testified before Congress.
Chang has served as a trustee of Cornell University where he received his undergraduate and JD degrees.
In addition to Chang, Republican speakers at the dinner will include U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards, U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley, N.C. State Senator Tim Moffitt and N.C. Court of Appeals candidates Craig Collins and Michael Byrne.
