Churches announce Holy Week services

Sunrise Service at Jump Off Rock

The annual Community Easter Sunrise Service will take place at 7 a.m. at Jump Off Rock at 7 a.m. Sunday, April17. All are welcome at the ecumenical worship service. Jump Off Rock is located at the end of Laurel Park Highway in Laurel Park. Because parking is limited, carpooling is highly recommended.

Easter Egg hunt

The Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness welcomes children of all ages to join the Young Families group hosting the annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 17, in the Rector’s Garden and Parish Hall Lawn next to the Parish Hall across Rutledge Drive from the church. Parking is available.
Here are other Holy Week services:
• Maundy Thursday, April 14: 7 p.m. service with Foot Washing and Stripping of the Altar
• Good Friday, April 15: 11 a.m. Stations of the Cross, meet in the parking lot of the Parish Hall; noon, Good Friday Service (No Eucharist); 1-4 p.m. Veneration of the Cross in the church; 5:30 p.m. Good Friday Service (No Eucharist)
• Easter Sunday, April 17: 8:45 a.m. Easter Service - Rite II Eucharist; 10 a.m. Easter Egg Hunt in the Rector's Garden and Parish Hall Lawn; 11 a.m. Easter Service - Rite II Eucharist.

Hendersonville Presbyterian Church

The community is invited to attend Holy Week services at Hendersonville Presbyterian Church, 699 N. Grove St., featuring special music to enhance the Palm Sunday and Easter services.
On Sunday, April 10, at the 11 a.m. Palm Sunday service, the handbell choir will ring a “Fanfare” by Alex Guebert and accompany the choir, congregation and organ on the Palm Sunday hymn “All Glory, Laud, and Honor.” The choir will recall Jesus’s entrance into Jerusalem by singing “Come, Jerusalem, Sing Hosanna!” by Don Besig and Nancy Price.
On April 14, at 6:30, the congregation will gather around tables in the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall for a special remembrance of Maundy Thursday led by the Rev. Rob McClelland. Lenten hymns “Amazing Grace” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” will be sung by the participants.
On Easter Sunday the 8 a.m. contemporary service will be held at a shed in Jackson Park. Those attending will be led by musicians Kate Hurley, Andy Morris and Lisa and Robert Burns singing music celebrating our risen savior.
At the 11 a.m. Easter Sunday 11:00 a.m. service the choir will sing two anthems in celebration of Christ’s resurrection: “Christ is Risen” by Graham Kendrick, arranged by Tom Fettke and Thomas Grassi, and “Crown Him the Risen King” by Lloyd Larson. The congregation will join in singing “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” and “The Day of Resurrection” accompanied by organ.

First Congregational UCC

First Congregational United Church of Christ opens Holy Week worship opportunities beginning with Palm Sunday service at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10.
On Maundy Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m. there will be Tennebrae service, and 1-3 p.m. Good Friday, April 15, the sanctuary will be open for self-guided meditation. On Easter Sunday, April 17, there will be a community Sunrise Service at Jump Off Rock at 7 a.m. as well as a joy-filled service of music and worship at 10:30 in the church sanctuary.
