The public is invited to a dedication at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, of the Thomas E. "Tom" Orr Stage in the
The event will include speakers and the unveiling of a plaque. A reception and refreshments will follow. School Board members, schools Superintendent John Bryant and friends and family are expected to attend.

The Henderson County School Board voted unanimously in April to accept Bryant's recommendation to name the stage in honor of Orr, the longtime English and theater teacher, former School Board member, Times-News columnist creator of local history dramas and founder of the Walk of Fame.

"Mr. Orr was an exceptional member of our educational community, a board member, a leader in our community and someone who taught and served with absolute grace," Bryant said then. "And through that continued process and dialogue, the Board gave me direction to engage stakeholders and stakeholder input about an appropriate way in which we might recognize Mr. Orr's contribution."
