EDNEYVILLE — Mount Moriah Baptist Church will celebrate its 175th anniversary on Sunday during the annual homecoming service followed by dinner in the recreation building.
One of the oldest continuously living churches in Henderson County, Mount Moriah was formed in 1838 and still occupies the same site on Gilliam Mountain Road where it began.
"I think the first building burnt down and then they built the building we tore down in 1890s," said Marvin Peterson, a deacon and choir member. "We built the new building two years ago this past May."
The 11 a.m. homecoming service will be led by the Rev. Bryan Melton and feature music by the Mount Moriah Praise Band and the church choir. The church is inviting former members and former ministers to attend. Dinner following the service is open to all members and visitors.
